INVITATION | Panel Discussion | Cutting Realities as Artistic Strategy

The

AUSTRIAN CULTURAL FORUM

presents

Cutting Realities as Artistic Strategy.
Gender Strategies in Central Europe with special focus on the work of VALIE EXPORT.

PANEL DISCUSSION
TUESDAY October 14, 2008 | 7 PM

The panel discussion focuses on the issue of gender as an artistic strategy prevalent since the 1960s in both Europe and the USA. While the USA had always been more liberal in its response to radical performances in public space, Central and Eastern Europe enforced harsh punishments due to the restrictive politics dominant in the 1960s and 70s. The discussion will examine radical artistic practices and how their perception has changed up to the present day.

With:
VALIE EXPORT, artist
Karen Finley, artist
Georg Schoellhammer, documenta 12 publication editor
Margarete Lamb-Faffelberger, Prof. of Literature at Lafayette College, PA
Moderated by Walter Seidl, Curator of Cutting Realities
