KLANGFORUM WIEN Klangforum Wien, photo by Claudia Prieler This arguably most important chamber ensemble from Austria is performing a wide repertoire of cutting edge compositions within the framework of an ACFNY art/concert residency on April 6th and 7th, immediately following their innovative music and film program at Lincoln Center's recently re-opened Alice Tully Hall on April 4th 2009 (see ACF-recommendation below). KLANGFORUM WIEN was founded in 1985 by Beat Furrer as an ensemble of soloists committed to the performance of contemporary music, with a democratic philosophy, where co-operation between performers, conductors and composers is both encouraged and nurtured and replaces the more traditional, hierarchical structure found in much musical practice. KLANGFORUM WIEN performs worldwide with over 80 performances each season, with focal points in the important European music centers as well as in the USA and Japan. Another mainstay of the ensemble's work is their annual programmmatically ambitious series of concerts at the Vienna Konzerthaus. The program and residency at the ACFNY is curated by Sven Hartberger.

ACF RECOMMENDS
CONCERT
SATURDAY APR 4, 8:00 PM KLANGFORUM WIEN NEW MUSIC FOR A NEW HALL - free radicals
Free Radicals, an innovative music and film program by the acclaimed Austrian contemporary music ensemble Klangforum Wien, will have its U.S. premiere at Alice Tully Hall, led by guest conductor, Jean Deroyer. The project, the result of a collaboration between the ensemble and noted contemporary film artists and composers, had its world premiere at the 2007 Venice Biennale. Free Radicals is an aural and visual immersion pairing short films by experimental filmmakers from the 1920s to the present with music by composers from the same eras. The program reveals new rhythms, dramatic possibilities, and relationships between sound and image. Program concept by Bernhard Zachhuber and Bady Minck. Music by Aperghis, Feldman, Schoenberg, Furrer, Mochizuki, and others. Films by Man Ray, Bady Minck, Maya Deren, Tim MacMillan, Pipilotti Rist, and others. A project of Klangforum Wien in cooperation with Amour Fou Filmproduktion.
