Throughout the years, Phishbacher has featured extraordinary staples of both the US and European music scene. The band's latest line-up features Nathan Peck on bass and Yutaka Uchida on drums, two of the finest groovers and shakers on the US side of the Atlantic. The flavor of this outfit is distinctly funky, with Mr. Uchida providing an impossibly tight back beat to Mr. Peck's thumping bass lines. Walter Fischbacher draws from a vast musical background encompassing not only classical piano repertoire but also the music of jazz piano greats such as Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. Merging distinct flavors from different corners of the world, this 2009 version of Phishbacher brings 70s Funk into the 21st Century.

The show at the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York on April 29th will be the official US CD release concert of Phishbacher's latest album "Prove That!" featuring Dan Brantigan on trumpet, as well a guest singers Elisabeth Lohninger and Patrizia FERRARA.

These concerts take place within the framework of the ACF's ongoing OPEN SPACE UNCURATED 09 | CREATIVE MIGRATION project, which represents a survey of the emerging Austrian Art scene in the US. For one month, 14 Austrian artists chosen by a jury are making use of the ACF's galleries and theater, with projects ranging from such diverse areas as visual arts, performance, music and academic research.
