LEWIS FOREVER in Residence

LEWIS FOREVER (LF) is a performance collective of four siblings: three sisters and a brother; a director, two dancers, and a musician. The content of LF's residency will focus on the simultaneous development of a series of a solo projects and a video/live performance project. Throughout, LF will employ a variety of different strategies for investigating and expanding this material in front of a live audience. Each presentation will offer new insights and alterations to the material, which will then inform the following week's rehearsals and presentation.

Thursdays June 4, 11, 18, and 25 | 7 PM
$15 Members, $18 General Public (for each of four events)

In Complain The Explanation, Mariechen Danz activates her life-sized diorama, Fossilizing the Body Border Disorder (2008) through performance and song. Danz's performance, accompanied by Jackson Fledermaus, includes vocals that bridge indecipherable sounds and climaxes in a melodic pop song.

YTJ: Art and Motion

Awkwardness, humor, and bodies thrown into unpredictable timing are an important part of Loneliness by Faye Driscoll, a dance video flip book included in "Younger Than Jesus." Families will be invited to participate in movement workshops to explore what it means to be completely unpredictable. From 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., families are invited into our theater to view a 30-minute program of short films provided by Brooklyn International Film Festival's kidsfilmfest.

BARR/Brendan Fowler + MEN

To listen to BARR is to jump into Brendan Fowler's head, to enter a jumble of memory, laughter, fear and perseverance. MEN is a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective that focuses on the energy of live performance and radical potential of dance music. Comprised of JD Samson (Le Tigre), Johanna Fateman (Le Tigre), Michael O'Neill (Princess), Ginger Brooks Takahashi (The Ballet), and "Younger Than Jesus" artist Emily Roysdon, the group speaks to issues such as wartime economies, sexual compromise, and demanding liberties.

Do the definitions of "youth," "emerging," and other terms used in the contemporary art world translate to the worlds of graphic design, literary criticism, and independent filmmaking?
