PAPER EXHIBITION: UPCOMING EVENTS

Wednesday, February 25, 7pm

Kaleidoscope Room with Jonah Freeman

Jonah Freeman will give a slide lecture about the history and experience of The San San International, the mega-convention that overtakes the southern province of The San San metroplex every May. The basis of the lecture derives from journalist Elizabeth Stone's description of the event found in her seminal text In The Kaleidoscope Room. Freeman attended the convention two years in a row in an attempt to expand upon Stone's new journalistic investigations. The talk will be both an account of the trends, customs and rituals he witnessed as well as an exploration of the evolution of the exhibition and its host city.

Friday, February 27, 7pm

Hypnotic Show with Marcos Lutyens

Marcos Lutyens' interactive Hypnotic Show draws on commissioned artist scripts and the mind of the participant. The event acts as a temporary social structure that engages creative cognitive acts through the shared practices of art and hypnosis. The goal of the session is to install a new exhibition in the audience's memory.

Spending* in 2008: The Top 100 Sexual Performances in the Art World
with Michael Portnoy & Vita Zaman

In 2008, Michael Portnoy and Vita Zaman embarked on a one year research performance into the libidinal economy of the art world. Anticipating the convulsions of the art market, they chose to embrace and penetrate the minds and bodies of the 100 most powerful specimens in the industry. Time, money and semen were spent in order to create a pornographic archive of the struggle between investment and waste. Their highly sensitive diaries are published as a very limited edition anthology, publicly revealed and partially enacted at Artists Space.
