Brooklyn, NYGitana Rosa Gallery invites you to attend the opening
reception of The Manhattan Project, a solo exhibition of mixed media
paintings by the artist Tom Bob. A public reception will be held with
the artist on Friday May 8th from 7-10pm in conjunction with the
Williamsburg Gallery Associations every second Friday art walk.
The Manhattan Project expresses the energy, color, moods and emotions
of past, present, and future worlds. Gitana Rosa brings you a
distinct sampling of art works created in different neighborhoods around
Manhattan by Tom Bob. Each body of work could be said to mirror a
stage in our version of the universal cycle of life.
The image series of paintings with its layered process reflects
the complexities of our modern world and its intricate layers of
subtlety-hidden symbols, hierarchies and the notion of ying to yang.
These copious amounts of information and complexity drive things forward
ever faster towards a point of overload, wherein they become
obsolete. Left to decay as obsolete debris a new form emerges.
The broken or unfinished series of multimedia paintings
with its layers of stopand start, minimalist approach and delicate
balance arises from a point where the structures of society have all
broken down. All the digital noise, structure and complexity have
disappeared and a sense of calm has settled in. From the debris and
rubble a mixture of all things past meld together and a new biological
balance arises. These ideas of the new world and its biological
structures, shapes and forms are thus the new life. This completing
the cycle and beginning the process anew, and possibly asking, is a
harmonious connected way of living the meaning of life.
Tom Bob has been living and working in NYC for over 20 years. He has
exhibited at group shows in Boston and New York. His Barack
Obama painting was one of 30 finalists of 1,200 entries for Manifest
Hope Gallery of Moveon.org. His most recent commissions include a
painting for Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center at Brigham
and Womens Hospital in Boston and designing bathroom accessories for
Peanuts, the most beloved comic strip in history created by Charles M.
Shulz.
