This free festival will feature internationally acclaimed artists, inflatable sculptures, cowboys, story-tellers and performances byThe Hungry Marching Band, Zon Del Barrio, and Michael Aranella and his Dreamland Orchestra bands (some on a roof-top stage). An exciting array of hands-on activities including a special Target "Hi from the High Line!" photo experience, along with the World's Largest Lemonade Stand and a special Youth Green Market showcasing the healthiest and tastiest foods, along with corn roasting and cider making workshops from local providers add even more fun to the day's activities. Internationally-acclaimed balloon artist Jason Hackenwerth will be on hand working on a large public balloon sculpture of flowers and giant insects, and Peter Brown, author of the Curious Garden, will do a reading from his children's book inspired by the High Line. For seven Sundays beginning July 12 through August 23, the series will host a diverse mix of art, music and performance. Live musical talent includes Erin & Her Cello, The Woes, DJ Frenetik and sitar-stylist Dawoud. 7 Sundays will also feature local DJs, fashion shows, photography, short films, Nintendo Wii battles, an 'Art-Of'" timed competition for new media artists, and performance art ranging from dirty balloon sculptures and Capoeira to stand-up comedy by Scout Durwood of Mighty Little Productions." The organization was founded in 2002 as a summer accompaniment to the Columbia University Wind Ensemble and is under the direction of Andy Pease. Posted: 12 Jul 2009 07:00 AM PDT Lance Robertson, AKA DJ Lance Rock, is a Los Angeles-based musician, DJ, and actor also known for his role on the award-winning Nick Jr. show Yo Gabba Gabba!. Originally from St. Louis, Robertson was the vocalist for a local electronic band throughout the 1990's. Later Robertson relocated and formed the indie rock band The Raymakers. While working on building their name, Robertson met Scottie Schultz of the Orange County indie pop band Majestic, and they eventually played a couple of shows together. Years later, when Schultz was co-creating the show Yo Gabba Gabba!, he asked Lance to serve as host, which he graciously accepted. This summer, DJ Lance Rock will bring his kid-friendly DJ sets to Central Park SummerStage and will be joined by fellow Yo Gabba Gabba! character Brobee. Read More...
