THE AUSTRIAN CULTURAL FORUM NEW YORK
RECOMMENDS
TUEDSAY SEP 15 - FRIDAY OCT 2, 2009
NATURE THEATER OF OKLAHOMA "LIFE AND TIMES - EPISODE 1" BURGTHEATER, VIENNA The Nature Theater of Oklahoma spent the month of July here at the Austrian Cultural Forum rehearsing and developing their new production "Life and Times - Episode 1". Their artistic residency culminated in two work-in-progress performances of the piece, which played to a packed ACFNY theater. The Nature Theater of Oklahoma has now brought this production to its intended destination: Vienna's Burgtheater, where it can be seen through October 2nd.
"Nature Theater of Oklahoma, the most buzzed-about new troupe on the New York avant-garde scene, is certainly not for traditional tastes, its gleefully democratic spirit and old-fashioned showmanship certainly aims to please - and does so quite winningly." ( - The New York Times) Nature Theater of Oklahoma is an OBIE award-winning New York performance group under the direction of Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper. Since Poetics: a ballet brut, their first dance piece created as an ensemble, Nature Theater of Oklahoma has been devoted to putting themselves in impossible situations, and working from out of their own so-called ignorance and unease. They use the readymade material around them, found space, overheard speech, and observed gesture, and through extreme formal manipulation, and superhuman effort, they affect in our work a shift in the perception of everyday reality that extends beyond the site of performance and into the world in which we live. 2008 they received the Young Directors Award at Salzburger Festspiele.
