GIANT STEP

Little Jackie

Thursday, August 14 2008

The Florida Room at Delano, Miami Beach FL

Giant Step presents Little Jackie at the gorgeous Florida Room at DELANO.

Blend the old-school R&B sound with a quirky hybrid of hip-hop and pop and you get Little Jackie, the creation of genre-defying singer-songwriter Imani Coppola and programmer Adam Pallin. With a nod to the soulful Motown rhythms of the past and a sneer to many of the social and cultural issues that consume the public today, Coppola has crafted The Stoop (out July 8th), an album of musical sugar and spice, filled with sweet, saccharine-tinged melodies and spicy, bold commentaries.

The Great American Bake Sale in ON! I'm always IN for desserts!

Childhood Hunger

Hunger is a reality for children in America

By the end of the year, more than 12 million children in America will worry about having the food they need.

The Problem

It invades our schools.

It preys on children.

It destroys families.

And it tears communities apart.

You can't see it by looking.

The victims are black, white, Asian and Hispanic.

You can't measure it in pounds.

It affects short and tall, thin and chubby.

You can't see it, but it lives next door.

The problem is hunger.

The Solution

Share Our Strength® is a national organization working to make sure that
no kid grows up hungry in America. By raising funds through programs like Share
Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale®, Share Our Strength weaves
together a net of community groups, activists and food programs to catch every
at-risk child and surround them with nutritious food where they live, work
and play.

Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale helps raise funds for
organizations in communities across America to help provide at-risk children
with nutritious meals when they're needed most — during the summer,
and after school. Additionally, proceeds support Operation Frontline, a chef-led nutrition education program
for low-income children and families.

Since 2003, more than 1 million people have participated in Share Our Strength's
Great American Bake Sale, raising nearly $4 million to make sure no child in
America grows up hungry.

Poverty is complex; feeding a child is not. Everyone has a strength, and everyone
has something to share.

It's time to roll up our sleeves and put an end to childhood hunger.

2008 Great American Bake Sale

Ending Childhood Hunger Can Be a Piece of Cake

Be a key ingredient in ending childhood hunger in your community by registering to host your own bake sale. Registration is easy and takes less than 5 minutes! And
as a thank you from our sponsors, upon completion of registering, you will receive valuable coupons to get you started with your bake sale.

Why Should You Participate?

Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale is a meaningful cause because:

  • 39 states and the District of Columbia received funds raised from the Great American Bake Sale in 2007.
  • 5.3 million nutritious meals and snacks were served to children as a result of bake sale proceeds.
  • 100% of participants enjoy contributing to the campaign.

Every bake sale makes a difference in the fight to end childhood hunger in America. Register today.

Oh yeah, and wear red (wouldn’t want you to stand out)

Party it up in Brooklyn!

Seems every weekend, there is some sort of AWESOME event happening in Brooklyn! Last week was Bittersweet and this week, ripped from going.com, there is a BK Rooftop party that's (weather permitting!) looks to be a chill, funky, all out fun event!

Editors' Take

A no frills rooftop party with a killer view of the skyline. $5 gets you a plastic cup while you're welcome to fill with endless beer; artists, DJs and creative types are welcome to join the roster of talent by contacting the promoters. Summer will be over before we know it; might as well rage while we can!

HEY,

So I wanted to throw a jam on our roof because it has a beautiful view of NYC and because we can make noise and party and yada yada...but just to party. No concert or self promotion - just a good time with some bands we're friends with.

There will be bottomless beer for $5... we're just gonna sell a cup to everyone that comes and you can drink as much beer as you can drink and of course byob -

we're also looking for cool ideas to help promote the party... if you're an artist and wanna perform, sell, or just share what you're doing, let me know and we'll figure a way to feature it.

I want this to be an opportunity for all of us to meet friends and friends of friends and branch out further into the social world that is NYC/BK.

So make this your reason to come out to BROOKLYN! It's easy.

JUKEBOX THE GHOST is gonna be playing as well as TRES BIEN! both are great friends of ours and it's gonna be a lot of fun - The Hatch may make a sneaky performance, but who knows...

LETS JUST PARTY BK STYLE AND ENJOY THE END OF THE SUMMER ALL TOGETHER - SPREAD THE WORD - EVERYONE IS INVITED!!!!!

DIRECTIONS:
address is 250 Moore St. (Morgan Stop on L Train)

subway directions:
L Train to Brooklyn - exit back of train - make right onto Bogart - right onto Moore: 250 Moore St.

williamsburgh bridge - to grand - right on bushwick - left on Varet - left on white - stop on corner of White and Moore - 250 Moore.

Who doesn't love a free gift or gifts??
